he Department of Social Work at St. Joseph’s College, Moolamattom is started in the year 2005 with a vision of creating an academic community that is continuously concerned with the major areas of human learning relevant to the broad field of social welfare and social work as a profession and also to establish equality, healthy, wealthy, peaceful and prosperous society by strengthening human relations and promoting social justice through planned social work interventions. The department offers a four semester(2 years) Post Graduate Program in Social Work (MSW) with three specializations: Medical and Psychiatry(M&P),Community Development(CD)and Family and Child Welfare(FCW).

Extension Activities:
Community Partnership Development Initiatives in different Panchayats of Idukki district
Objective of the programme is to know the tribal settlements and provide awareness on education, health and human rights to the tribal people. (Edamalakkudy – the first tribal panchayath in India, Chinnaoarakudy and Kunchiparakudy)
Organise mental health awareness programmes and counseling in schools.
Department collaborates with the agencies involved in social service and organize programmes for the needy and disadvantaged.
Every year Department conducts survey among the general public on various current issues.
